Thompson follows NWC clerk Jaco Finlay’s trail, (in 1806), to the Columbia River and establishes Kootenae House, first trading post in the Columbia Basin, and Thompson’s base of expolration. The Niitsitapi, angry with NWC for trading guns to the Ktunaxa block Thompson and brigade from using the pass and Kootenae House.
